Summary:
This position is responsible for developing and administering indoor and outdoor recreation programs and assisting the operation of parks and related facilities.
MAJOR DUTIES:
Plans, develops, and implements youth and adult recreational programs for county residents.
Coordinates scheduled maintenance of facilities.
Attends education seminars and training programs as needed.
Attends community meetings, council meetings, and other civic and local groups to present and promote recreation program and leisure services offered by the county.
Maintains ball fields; prepares fields for games as necessary.
Performs grounds maintenance duties as needed, including mowing grass and picking up trash and litter.
Purchases equipment and supplies for the division.
Completes state and federal grant applications.
Plans, coordinates, and oversees special events and activities such as fundraisers and corporate outings.
Responds to complaints from the general public.
Works on the development of short and long range plans for the division.
Petitions individuals and business for recreation program sponsorships.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
Knowledge of principles and practices of public and recreation administration.
Knowledge of the theories and techniques of recreation service delivery for a variety of populations.
Knowledge of relevant laws, department and safety guidelines, and county codes, policies, and procedures.
Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, building codes, and safety regulations pertaining to recreation and park facilities.
Knowledge of recreation maintenance and repair techniques.
Knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to various sports and recreation activities.
Skill in supervision.
Skill in operating grounds maintenance tools and equipment.
Skill in planning, organizing, and marketing recreational services.
Skill in public speaking.
Skill in operating general office equipment.
Skill in interpersonal relations.
Skill in oral and written communication.
MINIMUM
Qualifications:
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
Must possess a valid South Carolina's Driver's License.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is typically performed while sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping.
The employee frequently lifts light objects, occasionally lifts heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguishes between shades of color.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work is typically performed in an office and at outdoor facilities, where the employee may be exposed to dust, dirt, machinery with moving parts, cold or inclement weather.
The work may require the use of protective devices such as mask, goggles, or gloves.

Position will remain open until filled by a qualified candidate.
